What I think about reading

Hey,

As you should know from the last post I love reading, and writing for that part. To be more specific I mean literature: books, stories, poems; all of it. I honestly think that reading is like a great tool for the mind. Because no matter what book you're reading, you're bound to get some new information of it. But now here's where I'm a little conflicted: I don't really think that reading a book over and over again is really good because what that means is that you're not using any of your memory, and we don't want that now do we.

Let me explain why I think like this:

If you've read the about page on the website then you probably know that I love philosophy, and my idol in philosophy is Sokrates (Σωκράτης) because he's pretty much the founding father of democracy and also teacher to Plato as all of western philosophy is a footnote to Plato so basically it's a footnote to Sokrates. Let's getback on topic: So I was saying that the reason I am sceptical about reading is that Sokrates thought it was something that has cursed mankind and it shall make us stop using our memories and it will also conceive people who read and claim that they know all but in truth do not know anything except arrogance. And that really alines with the rest of Sokrates's teachings as he also said "True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing".

In short what I understand from this is that we can probably read just for entertainment like literature and stuff but not actually read for knowledge cause that will be the death of us.

I'll end on the note that reading is still great and even the greatest philosopher of all time can be wrong.

Thanks for reading.
